Direct Bonding

Direct bonding is a conservative procedure requiring the artistic talents of our dentists. Direct bonding requires little to no tooth reduction, and is a procedure in which a composite material is placed over your teeth to improve the appearance of the teeth. We may use direct bonding to brighten a dark tooth, build back a chipped or broken tooth, or as a filling in a tooth. This procedure may be used in many of the same cases as porcelain veneers, though direct bonding typically does not last as long as veneers do. Some of our patients desire more dramatic alterations to their teeth, in which cases porcelain veneers may be a better choice of restoration. Our doctors will discuss each option available to you, and together we will decide what is best for your smile.

Tooth Bonding: Cosmetic Bonding and Restorations

Tooth bonding is a skill that not all cosmetic dentists in Atlanta specialize in. Adhesive dentistry or dental bonding requires skills and expertise that some dentists shy away from due to the precision required. Whether you’re interested in tooth bonding for restoration, fixing a broken tooth, discoloration, or tooth decay, it’s important that you work with a qualified cosmetic dentist who is well-versed in sculpting with tooth bonding.

Benefits from Tooth Bonding

Dental bonding costs considerably less than many other restorative dental techniques. One thing many find beneficial is the speed with which you can see a dramatic improvement in your smile. It’s often used for whitening, for fixing chipped teeth, and can even be used for gaps between teeth. Many people have their old silver fillings removed for white fillings made with this material as well.

Things You Should Know About Dental Bonding

Dental bonding isn’t necessarily as strong as some other cosmetic mouth restoration methods so while it does last for a while, it can require repair. It can also stain when first used so care and caution (follow your dentist’s instructions) is vital for the first 48 hours after treatment. If dental bonding isn’t done properly, patients could experience sensitivity. Be sure you talk to your cosmetic dentist if you have any issues after bonding, such as a misaligned bite or new sensitivity. Maintenance is required to keep bonded teeth looking their best so be sure you follow great oral hygiene habits and have regular check-ups and cleanings done.
